Fibroids & TreatmentMost women don’t feel any symptoms with fibroids. But for others, symptoms can include: • Excessive menstrual bleeding • Abnormal periods • Uterine bleeding • Consistent pain and discomfort • Frequent urination • Infertility Treatment. Treatment options for fibroid tumors include embolization and surgical removal. Embolization is a minimally-invasive alternative in which blood vessels are closed off to prevent blood flow to the tumor, thereby successfully shrinking it. While hysterectomy - surgical removal of the entire uterus - is also a proven method of effectively treating fibroids. Hysterectomy may not, however, be the best treatment for women who plan to become pregnant. In this instance, a myomectomy - a uterine-preserving surgical procedure - is likely a more favorable option.
