Colon and Rectal Cancer

Program Overview. At The Lacks Cancer Center our cancer treatment programs are increasing hope everyday, thanks to a multidisciplinary model of care, which incorporates a staff of progressive physicians, and innovative technology. In addition to this model, we continually review and apply the latest anti-cancer drugs, the newest staging and imaging techniques, and the most effective surgical procedures to ensure the best outcomes in the treatment of colorectal cancer.

Colorectal Cancer Overview. Colorectal cancer is the fourth most common cancer in both men and women. It begins most often as an abnormal growth called a polyp, which over the course of approximately one decade progresses to a cancer. Risk factors for the development of colorectal cancer include a family history of genetically inherited gene mutations, a family history of cancer, a history of polyps and being aged fifty or over. Symptoms of this disease include: blood in the stool, change in bowel habits, diarrhea, constipation, incomplete evacuation, bloating, narrowing of the stools, cramping, abdominal pain or fullness, fatigue, and general abdominal discomfort.
