Fallopian Cancer Treatment Options

Most treatments for this disease have been adapted from ovarian cancer treatments. Methods performed at The Lacks Cancer Center include aggressive surgeries, whose purpose is to remove all abnormal tissues. In addition to surgical treatment, our oncologists may also propose chemotherapy to kill any cancer tissue remaining after surgery.

Treatments frequently prescribed at The Lacks Cancer Center include:
 

• Total Hysterectomy. In this surgery the uterus and cervix are removed through either the vagina or abdomen. The surgeons at The Lacks Cancer Center often choose to utilize a more progressive, less invasive technique called a laparoscopic hysterectomy—a procedure that results in a a shorter period of recovery for our patients.
• Unilateral salpingo-oophorectomy. A surgical procedure to remove one ovary and one fallopian tube.
• Bilateral Salpingo-oophorectomy. The ovaries and both fallopian tubes are removed in this procedure.
• Partial Omentectomy. A surgical procedure to remove a portion of the omentum (A sheet of fat that is covered by peritoneum).
• Omentectomy. A surgical procedure to remove the entire omentum (A sheet of fat that is covered by peritoneum).
• Chemotherapy. This treatment uses potent drugs to kill cancer cells throughout the body. Typically, a combination of drugs is administered intravenously (directly into the veins), but can also be placed into an affected organ or body cavity directly (regional chemotherapy), depending on the type and stage of the cancer.
